All children are required to take part in physical education during class time. If there is a medical reason why your child cannot participate, please send a note in with your child to their class teacher.

Term 1 Focus

  • Swimming. This is part of the New Zealand Curriculum, and children are expected to take part in these lessons. Children who qualify at school swimming sports move onto Grey District swimming and then West Coast swimming.

  • Athletics. Our main physical education lessons are based around athletics. Whole school athletics is held towards the end of term 1. Children who qualify then move onto Grey District athletics.

Term 2 and 3 Focus

  • Term 2 is quieter for sporting events however we still teach physical education every week. These lessons are based on the current needs of the children such as ball skills.

Term 4 Focus

  • Cross country. Daily training is held leading up to the cross country from term 1. Children who qualify at school cross country then move forward to West Coast Cross Country.

  • Swimming. Lessons are based around water safety, confidence and skills.

Whanau and the community are invited to attend and support their children in all sporting events.

Other exercise activities are held such as court exercises, Jump Jam and walks around the community and along the cycle trail.

Sporting equipment is available for all children to use during breaks. P.E. monitors are chosen based on leadership skills.

Sporting events are not possible without parent/caregiver support, and we appreciate any help with training/coaching, transporting, timing, setting up etc. Please let the office know if you can assist in any way.
